At Tiny Toes we understand that all children have different learning styles and learn best in different ways, that’s why we plan for each child as an individual not as a group. Linking our children’s interest to the early years foundation stage and the characteristics of effective learning we aim to give children the very best start in life building the foundation to future learning and development.
The curriculum we follow is the Early years foundation stage, this curriculum focuses on a child’s personal, social, emotional development, their communication and language and physical development whilst also focusing on mathematics, literacy, expressive arts and design and understanding the world.
Our routine is the same for the morning and afternoon sessions. Children participate in a variety of different adult lead activities linked to the curriculum and their current interests. Children are also encouraged to explore the setting freely with support from adults. Within each session we ensure children have access to the garden area regardless of the weather children are encouraged to explore and learn about the natural environment.
Meal times are an important time of the day where we can talk about healthy eating and understand where our food comes from. We have an ‘open snack bar’ for up to an hour in the morning and afternoon with a member of staff present to encourage independence. Children who attend morning sessions will have lunch at Tiny Toes, all the children sit together at lunch.
At Tiny Toes we provide a healthy snack for all children to enjoy. The snack we provide changes daily and is a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables with a healthy carbohydrate.
Children bring in their own lunches and we sit together at 12.30pm for lunch, packed lunches follow a healthy eating plan to ensure all children have a healthy and sustainable lunch.
At Tiny Toes we record each child’s development using Tapestry. Tapestry is an online journal, once a child joins Tiny Toes they are given an account where parents can log into and see their child’s development as well as having an insight into their time at nursery with photographs.
Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences and development during their time with us.
Tapestry provides each individual child with their own Learning Journal held online. Parents and carers are given their own log-in using their email and password, to enable them to access their child’s learning journal at any time.
We understand that leaving your child for the first time can be emotionally challenging for both parents and children and that is why we treat every settling in session individually. Before your child begins their journey with us at Tiny Toes they will be given a free hour stay and play session, this enables them to build a bond with their key person before they attend the nursery.
Each child will settle into nursery differently and we aim to work with parents to make it as easy as possible.
